You can still outsmart and outmaneuver Combine soldiers early on in a battle by picking them off one-by-one.Ĭombine soldiers also have flammable tanks sticking out of their backpacks, which can be shot, causing them to explode and deal collateral damage while also killing the original Combine soldier. Standard Combine soldier grunts can still pack a punch at range, firing at you with automatic weapons from behind cover while lobbing grenades to flush you out of defensive positions. The tricky part is aiming and getting a clear shot on them, which is why you should try firing at them from the hip. Luckily, they emit a loud whirring noise that makes them easy to recognize as they fly around your head, and they go down with only a couple of pistol bullets. If you aren't paying attention, even a lone manhack can sneak up on you and shave off a sizeable portion of your health. This enemy is a flying, spinning, chainsaw blade-equipped drone that will fly at you with incredible force. You can more easily take down an armored headcrab zombie with the shotgun and with explosives, making them a good target to unload your shells into when in range. Unlike the regular headcrab zombie, armored headcrab zombies will deflect standard pistol rounds when shot in the head. Shooting the green pustules on their limbs will kill them much quicker, but when in doubt, aim for the head.Īrmored headcrab zombies are basically the same as headcrab zombies, but with an armored headcrab sitting at the controls. Physically tough and dangerous in a group, the slow-moving garden-variety headcrab zombie is easy to kill at a distance with your pistol. Once killed, the lightning dog will drop an item called a 'reviver', which operates the same way as a Combine battery and can even fit into the same battery slots. For the record, it doesn't actually resemble a dog in any way. This enemy type can do loads of damage to you with its electric attacks, and it'll take more than a few shotgun shells to kill it. One way to mitigate damage from leaping headcrabs is by backing up and putting obstacles in between you as you fight them. That said, you don’t want them to leap onto you, as they can do some serious damage.
